Ventanas

The new Ventanas, located at Eleanor Roosevelt College, opened Fall Quarter 2023 with a full-service coffee house, upgraded indoor and outdoor seating areas, and a new connection to Seventh College to the north. Along with Indian cuisine, the new Ventanas features menu items from Africa, the Caribbean, parts of South America and the American South. To develop the menu, the Dining team worked with the Black Resource Center leadership, UC San Diego students, Celebrity Chefs Kenny Gilbert, Diana Tandia, and Nelson German, as well as Executive Chef and professional consultant Bhaskar Raghav.

Chef Kenny Gilbert is a Caribbean food expert famous for Silkie's Chicken and Champagne Bar and House of Birds + Drop Biscuits in Florida. He is also the author of "Southern Cooking: Global Flavors". Fun fact: Chef Kenny was a contestant on Top Chef Season 7.

Diana Tandia is chef and owner of Berber Street Food in New York, New York. She is originally from Mauritania in northwest Africa, where she was raised in a Berber family with Senegalese roots. Her food is focused on “Afro-Fusion” dishes from Morocco, Mauritania, Senegal, Ghana, Nigeria, and more.

Nelson German is the Executive Chef/Owner of alaMar Kitchen & Bar and Sobre Mesa in Oakland, CA. His menu tells the stories of the African and Caribbean diasporas through cultural foodways -- contemporary techniques combined with his favorite family dishes from his mother and grandmother’s recipe books.

Chef Bhaskar Raghav was born in New Delhi and started his cooking career for the Tah Group and Sheraton Group hotels. He is currently the Business Development Manager with Cuisine Solutions, a premium food company that specializes in sous vide cooking and meal preparation. His specialties are Indian, French, Mediterranean and Cajun cuisines, and he is excited to bring authentic flavors to the menu at Ventanas.

64 Degrees & Roger’s Market

64 Degrees and Roger's Market feature a refreshed look and expanded offerings as we welcome our new Eighth College neighbors to the Theater District Living Learning Neighborhood and the Revelle community.

Guests of 64 Degrees are being treated to a new platform, Al Dente, which features classic Italian pasta and a seasonally influenced, diverse selection of global pastas and noodles, sauces, and freshly prepared proteins.

The Taqueria continues to offer delicious Mexican tacos, burritos, mulitas, and bowls that include proteins such as birria, carnitas, carne asada, chicken tinga, Acapulco shrimp, and Soyrizo. There are also two enticing new menu options: pupusas from Central America and arepas from South America.

Umi Sushi

The restaurant formerly known as Sixty-Four North will be transformed into "Umi", featuring sushi, nigiri, handrolls, sashimi, musubi, and our popular poke bowls. The space will include community table seating and the re-activation of the outdoor seating area on the west side of the building. Umi is currently scheduled to open in October 2023.
